Boleit ist ein seltenes, komplexes Halogenidmineral, dargestellt durch die Formel KPb26Ag9Cu24(OH)48Cl62. Ursprünglich 1891 als Oxychloridmineral identifiziert, kristallisiert es in tiefblauen Würfeln und gehört zur isometrischen Kategorie. Mehrere verwandte Minerale, darunter Pseudoboleit, Cumengit und Diaboleit, teilen seine komplexe Kristallstruktur und weisen ähnliche leuchtend blaue kubische Formen auf. Diese Minerale bilden sich typischerweise in alterierten Bereichen von Blei- und Kupferlagerstätten, resultierend aus der Wechselwirkung von chloridreichen Lösungen mit primären Sulfidmineralien.
Die äußeren Merkmale von Boleit offenbaren seine kubische Kristallstruktur und ordnen es der isometrischen Kristallklasse zu. Es weist eine perfekte Spaltbarkeit entlang der [001]-Richtung auf und zeigt einen sehr dunkel glänzenden Blauton, begleitet von einem hell grünlich-blauen Strich. Zwillingsbildung wird prominent durch Kerben an den durchdringenden Winkeln beobachtet, was zu einem pseudokubischen Penetrationszwilling an drei zueinander senkrechten Winkeln führt. Boleitkristalle können Größen von über einem halben Zoll pro Seite erreichen und weisen pseudo-oktaedrische tetragonale Dipyramiden auf.
Der Kristall auf diesem Exemplar ist ca. 4,0 / 1,5 mm groß.
