Calaverit, auch bekannt als Goldtellurid, ist ein seltenes metallisches Mineral, das durch die chemische Formel AuTe2 gekennzeichnet ist, wobei etwa 3 % seines Goldgehalts durch Silber ersetzt sind. Es wurde 1861 in Calaveras County, Kalifornien, entdeckt und 1868 nach dem County benannt. Dieses Mineral weist typischerweise einen metallischen Glanz auf und kann in Farben von silbrig-weiß bis messinggelb erscheinen. Es ist eng mit Sylvanit verwandt, einem weiteren Gold-Silber-Tellurid, das einen höheren Silbergehalt aufweist. Darüber hinaus ist Krennerit ein weiteres Mineral mit der gleichen Formel, aber unterschiedlicher Kristallstruktur. Obwohl Calaverit und Sylvanit die primären Telluriderze von Gold sind, sind sie insgesamt relativ geringe Goldquellen. Bemerkenswert ist, dass Calaverit während der Goldräusche in Westaustralien in den 1890er Jahren von Bedeutung war.
In Bezug auf die physikalischen und chemischen Eigenschaften bildet Calaverit monokline Kristalle, die keine Spaltflächen aufweisen, eine Dichte von 9,35 und eine Härte von 2,5. Das Mineral ist in konzentrierter Schwefelsäure löslich, und bei Behandlung mit heißer Schwefelsäure löst es sich auf und erzeugt eine schwammige Goldmasse, die in einer roten Tellurlösung suspendiert ist.

For all items reported as damaged or broken, we do require the item to be returned to us before a refund can be processed.
Return shipping costs are initially the responsibility of the customer. However, if your claim is approved after review, we will reimburse your reasonable return postage costs.
