Epidot, mit der chemischen Formel Ca2Al2(Fe3+;Al)(SiO4)(Si2O7)O(OH), bildet häufig gut entwickelte Kristalle, die zum monoklinen System gehören. Diese Kristalle weisen typischerweise eine prismatische Form auf, wobei ihre Längsausdehnung senkrecht zur einzigen Symmetrieebene verläuft.
Epidot ist ein Mineral, das aus Calcium-Aluminium-Silikat-Hydroxid besteht und die chemische Formel Ca2Al2(Fe3+;Al)(SiO4)(Si2O7)O(OH) hat. Es wird als Sorosilikat kategorisiert, das häufig gut entwickelte Kristalle bildet, die zum monoklinen System gehören. Diese Kristalle weisen typischerweise eine prismatische Form auf, wobei ihre Längsausdehnung senkrecht zur einzigen Symmetrieebene verläuft.
Es kommt häufig in metamorphen Gesteinen vor, typischerweise durch die Umwandlung von Plagioklas-Feldspat, Pyroxenen und Amphibolen während der Kontaktmetamorphose und hydrothermaler Prozesse. Zusätzlich kann Epidot in Basalt- und Granitformationen vorkommen. Es dient als wichtiges gesteinsbildendes Mineral, insbesondere in zwei Typen: Epidosit, der aus Epidot und Quarz besteht, und Unakit, der Epidot mit rosa Orthoklas kombiniert. Obwohl die Vorkommen dieser Gesteine relativ selten sind, können sie erhebliche Mengen an Epidot enthalten.
Das Mineral wurde 1801 von René Just Haüy benannt, wobei der Name vom griechischen Wort "epidosis" stammt, was "Zunahme" bedeutet, aufgrund der charakteristischen Längsausdehnung einer Seite seines Kristallprismas. Ein bemerkenswertes Merkmal des Epidots ist sein bemerkenswerter Pleochroismus, der es ihm ermöglicht, aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln unterschiedliche Farben zu zeigen.

For all items reported as damaged or broken, we do require the item to be returned to us before a refund can be processed.
