Malachit, ein Kupfercarbonathydroxid-Mineral mit der Formel Cu2CO3(OH)2, ist bekannt für sein undurchsichtiges, grün gebändertes Aussehen. Es kristallisiert im monoklinen System und bildet typischerweise botryoidale, faserige oder stalagmitische Massen in Brüchen und Hohlräumen tief unter der Erde, wo die chemische Ausfällung durch den Grundwasserspiegel und hydrothermale Fluide erleichtert wird. Obwohl einzelne Kristalle selten sind, treten sie als schlanke bis nadelartige Prismen auf. Gelegentlich bildet Malachit auch Pseudomorphosen nach den eher tafeligen oder blockigen Azuritkristallen.
Chrysokoll ist das mit diesem Exemplar assoziierte Mineral. Es ist ein wasserhaltiges Kupfer-Phyllosilikat-Mineral und Mineraloid. Die Struktur von Chrysokoll wurde genauer untersucht, da spektrographische Studien aus dem Jahr 2006 darauf hindeuten, dass als Chrysokoll identifizierte Materialien tatsächlich eine Kombination aus dem Kupferhydroxid Spertiniit und Chalzedon sein könnten. Chrysokoll findet sich typischerweise in amorphen Formen.
Dieses Exemplar stammt aus unserer Sammlung und wurde Mitte der 1980er Jahre erworben. Diese Art von Exemplar ist schwer zu bekommen, da die Mine nicht mehr in Betrieb ist.
