Obsidian ist ein natürlich vorkommendes vulkanisches Glas, das entsteht, wenn Lava aus einem Vulkan austritt und schnell abkühlt, was zu einer minimalen Kristallentwicklung führt. Als magmatisches Gestein klassifiziert, entsteht es aus felsischer Lava, die eine hohe Konzentration leichterer Elemente wie Silizium, Sauerstoff, Aluminium, Natrium und Kalium enthält. Typischerweise an den Rändern von rhyolithischen Lavaströmen, bekannt als Obsidianströme, gefunden, hat dieses Material einen signifikanten Siliziumdioxidgehalt, der zu seiner hohen Viskosität beiträgt. Diese Viskosität schränkt die atomare Diffusion innerhalb der Lava ein und verhindert die anfängliche Keimbildungsphase, die für die Bildung von Mineralkristallen notwendig ist, was durch schnelle Abkühlung zur Entstehung von natürlichem Glas führt.
Charakterisiert durch seine Härte, Sprödigkeit und amorphe Struktur, bricht Obsidian, um scharfe Kanten zu erzeugen. Historisch wurde es zur Herstellung von Schneide- und Stichwerkzeugen verwendet und es wurde auch für die Verwendung in chirurgischen Skalpellklingen erforscht.

If your item arrives damaged, we kindly ask that you provide a short, continuous video showing the specimen from at least six angles. You can simply hold it in your hands and gently rotate it while filming. Please also include a clear view of the package label in the video so we can assist you as quickly as possible.
For all items reported as damaged or broken, we do require the item to be returned to us before a refund can be processed.
Return shipping costs are initially the responsibility of the customer. However, if your claim is approved after review, we will reimburse your reasonable return postage costs.
