Rhodochrosit ist ein Mangancarbonatmineral, das durch die chemische Formel MnCO3 gekennzeichnet ist. Obwohl es selten in seiner reinen Form gefunden wird, weist es normalerweise einen rosenroten Farbton auf, kann aber auch in verschiedenen Schattierungen von Pink bis Hellbraun erscheinen. Das Mineral hinterlässt einen weißen Strich und hat eine Mohshärte von 3,5 bis 4,5. Sein spezifisches Gewicht liegt zwischen 3,45 und 3,6. Rhodochrosit kristallisiert im trigonalen System und weist eine Struktur und Spaltung auf, die mit dem rhomboedrischen Karbonatsystem übereinstimmt.
Chalkopyrit ist ein Kupfer-Eisen-Sulfidmineral und das am häufigsten vorkommende Kupfererzmineral. Es besitzt die chemische Formel CuFeS2 und kristallisiert im tetragonalen System. Sein Aussehen reicht von messingfarben bis goldgelb, mit einer Härte von 3,5 bis 4 auf der Mohs-Skala. Der Strich von Chalkopyrit ist diagnostisch und zeigt eine schwärzliche Färbung.
Bei Luftkontakt läuft Chalkopyrit an, wodurch verschiedene Oxide, Hydroxide und Sulfate entstehen. Verwandte Kupferminerale sind die Sulfide Bornit (Cu5FeS4), Chalkosin (Cu2S), Covellit (CuS) und Digenit (Cu9S5); Carbonate wie Malachit und Azurit; und seltener Oxide wie Cuprit (Cu2O). Es wird selten in Verbindung mit nativem Kupfer gefunden. Chalkopyrit dient auch als elektrischer Leiter.
