Romanèchit ((Ba,H2O)2(Mn4+,Mn3+)5O10) dient als Hauptbestandteil von Psilomelan, einem Verbundstoff aus verschiedenen Mineralien. Die meisten Psilomelane bestehen jedoch nicht ausschließlich aus Romanèchit, weshalb es ungenau ist, die beiden gleichzusetzen. Dieses Mineral ist eine wichtige Manganquelle, die bei der Stahlproduktion und der Herstellung von Natriumbatterien verwendet wird. Romanèchit weist eine monokline Kristallstruktur auf, hat eine Härte von 6 und eine spezifische Dichte zwischen 4,7 und 5. Seine einzigartige Struktur umfasst 2 × 3-Tunnel, die durch MnO6-Oktaeder gebildet werden.
In Bezug auf Assoziationen wird es häufig zusammen mit Hämatit, Baryt, Pyrolusit, Quarz und anderen Manganoxidmineralien gefunden. Bemerkenswerte Vorkommen von Romanèchit wurden in Ländern wie Frankreich, Deutschland, England, Brasilien, Russland und Indien sowie in verschiedenen Regionen der Vereinigten Staaten, einschließlich Arizona, Virginia, Tennessee und Michigan, insbesondere im gesamten Appalachian Valley and Ridge, dokumentiert. Darüber hinaus kann es in Ferromangan-Knollen aus dem Baikalsee gefunden werden.
