Zinkblende, ein Sulfidmineral mit der Formel (Zn, Fe)S, dient als primäre Zinkquelle. Dieses Mineral kommt in verschiedenen Arten von Lagerstätten vor, vorwiegend in sedimentär-exhalativen Lagerstätten, Mississippi-Valley-Typ-Lagerstätten und vulkanogenen Massivsulfid-Formationen. Es wird häufig zusammen mit anderen Mineralien wie Bleiglanz, Kupferkies, Pyrit und verschiedenen Karbonaten und Silikaten, einschließlich Calcit, Dolomit, Quarz, Rhodochrosit und Fluorit, gefunden.
Kupferkies ist ein Kupfer-Eisen-Sulfidmineral und das häufigste Kupfererzmineral. Es hat die chemische Formel CuFeS2 und kristallisiert im tetragonalen System. Sein Aussehen variiert von messingfarben bis goldgelb, mit einer Härte von 3,5 bis 4 auf der Mohs-Skala. Der Strich von Kupferkies ist diagnostisch und zeigt eine getönte schwarze Farbe.
Bei Kontakt mit Luft läuft Kupferkies an, wodurch verschiedene Oxide, Hydroxide und Sulfate entstehen. Verwandte Kupferminerale sind die Sulfide Bornit (Cu5FeS4), Chalkosin (Cu2S), Covellin (CuS) und Digenit (Cu9S5); Karbonate wie Malachit und Azurit; und, seltener, Oxide wie Cuprit (Cu2O). Es wird selten in Verbindung mit nativem Kupfer gefunden. Kupferkies dient auch als elektrischer Leiter.
Manganoan Calcit, auch bekannt als Manganocalcit, ist eine Calcit-Varietät, die reich an Mangan ist, was dem Mineral eine rosa Farbe verleiht. Seine chemische Formel ist (Ca,Mn)CO3. Dieses Mineral wurde erstmals im Bergbaubezirk Banská Štiavnica in der Slowakischen Republik gemeldet, ist aber weltweit verbreitet, insbesondere in der Höhle der Schwerter in Naica, Chihuahua, sowie in Bulgarien.
Manganoan Calcit wird gelegentlich mit Rhodochrosit verwechselt. Der Mangangehalt in Manganoan Calcit variiert an verschiedenen Orten, und das Mineral zeigt eine feste Lösungsserie zwischen Calcit und Rhodochrosit, wobei die Farbe mit zunehmendem Mangananteil roter wird.
