Topas ist ein Silikatmineral, das aus Aluminium und Fluor besteht und durch die chemische Formel Al2SiO4(F, OH)2 repräsentiert wird. Es wird häufig als Edelstein in Schmuck und Dekorationsartikeln verwendet. Während natürlicher Topas typischerweise farblos ist, können Verunreinigungen Farbtöne von blassblau bis goldbraun oder gelb-orange verleihen. Behandlungen mit Hitze oder Strahlung können seine Farbe zu Tiefblau, Rotorange, Hellgrün, Rosa oder Violett verstärken.
Als Nesosilikat und Aluminosilikatmineral zählt Topas zu den härtesten natürlich vorkommenden Mineralien und weist einen niedrigen Brechungsindex auf. Es kristallisiert im orthorhombischen System und zeigt eine dipyramidale Kristallklasse. Topas wird an verschiedenen Orten weltweit gefunden, wobei Brasilien und Russland bemerkenswerte Quellen sind, und wird oft durch Tagebau- oder Seifenbergbaumethoden gewonnen.
Der Begriff „Topas“ soll vom griechischen Wort Τοπάζιος (Topázios) oder Τοπάζιον (Topázion) stammen, das mit der Insel St. Johannes im Roten Meer verbunden ist, wo historisch ein gelber Stein abgebaut wurde. Das Mineral wurde 1737 erstmals „Topas“ genannt. Das alte Sri Lanka spielte auch eine Rolle im Handel von Topasen nach Griechenland und Ägypten, was zur Etymologie des Namens beitrug. Einige Quellen legen eine Verbindung zum Sanskrit-Wort तपस् (tapas) nahe, was „Hitze“ oder „Feuer“ bedeutet.

For all items reported as damaged or broken, we do require the item to be returned to us before a refund can be processed.
