SALEEITE, RANGER NO 3 PIT JABIRU, NT, AUSTRALIA (cabinet) NOT FOR SALE OUTSIDE AUSTRALIA
Saleeite is a secondary mineral found in the oxidized zones of ura deposits or as disseminated particles within carnotite-rich sandstones. Its chemical composition is represented by the formula Mg(UO2)2(PO4)2·10(H2O).
First identified in 1932 at Shinkolobwe in the Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, it is named after the Belgian mineralogist Achille Salée, who served as a professor at Université catholique de Louvain. Subsequent analysis revealed that the mineral from Katanga is actually meta-saleeite, with the formula Mg(UO2)2(PO4)2·8(H2O), and the type locality was designated as the Weißer Hirsch Mine in Neustädtel, located in the Schneeberg District of the Ore Mountains in Saxony, Germany.
