Boleit ist ein seltenes, komplexes Halogenidmineral mit der Formel KPb26Ag9Cu24(OH)48Cl62. Ursprünglich 1891 als Oxichloridmineral identifiziert, kristallisiert es in tiefblauen Würfeln und gehört zur isometrischen Kategorie. Mehrere verwandte Minerale, darunter Pseudoboleit, Cumengit und Diaboleit, teilen seine komplizierte Kristallstruktur und zeigen ähnliche hellblaue kubische Formen. Diese Minerale bilden sich typischerweise in alterierten Bereichen von Blei- und Kupferlagerstätten, als Ergebnis der Wechselwirkung von chloridreichen Lösungen mit primären Sulfidmineralen.
Die äußeren Merkmale von Boleit zeigen seine kubische Kristallstruktur, die es in die isometrische Kristallklasse einordnet. Es weist eine perfekte Spaltbarkeit entlang der [001]-Richtung auf und zeigt einen sehr dunklen, glänzenden Blauton, begleitet von einem hell grünlich-blauen Strich. Zwillingsbildung ist durch Kerben an den interpenetrierenden Winkeln deutlich zu beobachten, was zu einem pseudokubischen Durchdringungszwillingshabitus an drei zueinander senkrechten Winkeln führt. Boleitkristalle können Größen von über einem halben Zoll auf jeder Seite erreichen und weisen pseudo-oktaedrische tetragonale Dipyramiden auf.
Der Kristall auf diesem Exemplar ist ca. 2,5 mm groß.
