Boleit ist ein seltenes, komplexes Halogenidmineral, das durch die Formel KPb26Ag9Cu24(OH)48Cl62 dargestellt wird. Ursprünglich 1891 als Oxychloridmineral identifiziert, kristallisiert es in tiefblauen Würfeln und gehört zur isometrischen Kategorie. Mehrere verwandte Minerale, darunter Pseudoboleit, Cumengeit und Diaboleit, teilen seine komplizierte Kristallstruktur und weisen ähnliche hellblaue kubische Formen auf. Diese Minerale bilden sich typischerweise in alterierten Bereichen von Blei- und Kupferlagerstätten, als Ergebnis der Wechselwirkung chloridreicher Lösungen mit primären Sulfidmineralen.
Die äußeren Merkmale von Boleit offenbaren seine kubische Kristallstruktur, die es in die isometrische Kristallklasse einordnet. Es zeigt eine perfekte Spaltbarkeit entlang der [001]-Richtung und eine sehr dunkle glänzende blaue Farbe, begleitet von einem hellgrünlich-blauen Strich. Zwillingsbildung ist deutlich durch Kerben an den durchdringenden Winkeln zu beobachten, was zu einem pseudokubischen Durchdringungszwillingshabitus an drei zueinander senkrechten Winkeln führt. Boleitkristalle können Größen von über einem halben Zoll auf jeder Seite erreichen und weisen pseudo-oktaedrische tetragonale Dipyramiden auf.
Der Kristall auf diesem Exemplar ist ca. 3,5 mm groß.
