Chalkopyrit ist ein Kupfer-Eisen-Sulfid-Mineral und das am häufigsten vorkommende Kupfererzmineral. Es besitzt die chemische Formel CuFeS2 und kristallisiert im tetragonalen System. Sein Aussehen reicht von messing- bis goldgelb, mit einer Härte von 3,5 bis 4 auf der Mohs-Skala. Die Strichfarbe von Chalkopyrit ist diagnostisch und zeigt eine schwarze, leicht getönte Farbe.
Beim Kontakt mit Luft läuft Chalkopyrit an, wodurch verschiedene Oxide, Hydroxide und Sulfate entstehen. Begleitende Kupferminerale umfassen die Sulfide Bornit (Cu5FeS4), Chalkosin (Cu2S), Covellin (CuS) und Digenit (Cu9S5); Karbonate wie Malachit und Azurit; und, seltener, Oxide wie Cuprit (Cu2O). Es wird selten in Verbindung mit nativem Kupfer gefunden. Chalkopyrit ist auch ein elektrischer Leiter.
Manganoan Calcit, auch bekannt als Manganocalcit, ist eine manganreiche Varietät von Calcit, die einen rosa Farbton aufweist. Seine chemische Zusammensetzung wird durch die Formel (Ca,Mn)CO3 dargestellt. Ursprünglich im Bergbaugebiet Banská Štiavnica in der Slowakischen Republik identifiziert, ist dieses Mineral weltweit zu finden, mit bemerkenswerten Vorkommen in der Höhle der Schwerter in Naica, Chihuahua, Mexiko, und in Bulgarien.
Aufgrund ihrer Ähnlichkeiten kommt es oft zu Verwechslungen zwischen Manganoan Calcit und Rhodochrosit. Der Mangangehalt in Manganoan Calcit kann je nach Fundort variieren, und er existiert in einer festen Lösungsserie mit Calcit und Rhodochrosit, was zu einer tieferen roten Farbe führt, wenn die Mangan-Konzentration zunimmt.
Quarz ist ein robustes kristallines Mineral, das aus Kieselsäure oder Siliciumdioxid besteht. Seine Struktur besteht aus einer kontinuierlichen Anordnung von SiO4-Silicium-Sauerstoff-Tetraedern, wobei jedes Sauerstoffatom zwischen zwei Tetraedern geteilt wird, was zu der chemischen Formel SiO2 führt. Diese Klassifizierung ordnet Quarz strukturell als Gerüstsilikatmineral und von der Zusammensetzung her als Oxidmineral ein. Es ist nach Feldspat das zweithäufigste Mineral in der kontinentalen Erdkruste.
