Zinnober, auch als Zinnoberit oder Quecksilberblende bezeichnet, ist eine leuchtend scharlachrote bis ziegelrote Variante von Quecksilber(II)-sulfid (HgS). Es dient als primäres Erz zur Gewinnung von elementarem Quecksilber und war historisch die Quelle des auffälligen roten Pigments, das als Vermilion bekannt ist, sowie anderer roter quecksilberbasierter Pigmente.
Dieses Mineral bildet sich typischerweise in Adern, die mit vulkanischer Aktivität und alkalischen heißen Quellen verbunden sind, und weist eine Quarz-ähnliche Symmetrie sowie Doppelbrechung auf. Zinnober hat einen durchschnittlichen Brechungsindex von etwa 3,2, eine Härtebewertung zwischen 2,0 und 2,5 und ein spezifisches Gewicht von etwa 8,1. Seine charakteristische Farbe und Eigenschaften ergeben sich aus seiner hexagonalen Kristallstruktur, die zum trigonalen Kristallsystem gehört, wobei einige Kristalle Zwillingsbildungen aufweisen.

If your item arrives damaged, we kindly ask that you provide a short, continuous video showing the specimen from at least six angles. You can simply hold it in your hands and gently rotate it while filming. Please also include a clear view of the package label in the video so we can assist you as quickly as possible.
For all items reported as damaged or broken, we do require the item to be returned to us before a refund can be processed.
Return shipping costs are initially the responsibility of the customer. However, if your claim is approved after review, we will reimburse your reasonable return postage costs.
