Prehnit ist ein natürlich vorkommendes Silikatmineral, das als Inosilikat klassifiziert wird und die chemische Formel Ca2AlAlSi3O10(OH)2 besitzt. Gekennzeichnet durch seinen hellgrünen bis blassen Farbton, kann Prehnit durchscheinende oder transparente Eigenschaften aufweisen. Dieses Mineral wird hauptsächlich in Australien gefunden, insbesondere in den Wave Hill-Lagerstätten des Northern Territory und an verschiedenen Orten in Westaustralien.
Prehnit bildet sich typischerweise in Adern und Hohlräumen in basischen Eruptivgesteinen, insbesondere in Mandelsteinbasalt, und ist auch in metamorphen Gesteinen vorhanden. Es ist oft mit anderen Mineralien, wie Natrolith, assoziiert. In Australien wird Prehnit häufig als Knollen gefunden, die in Basalt eingebettet sind, mit bemerkenswerten Vorkommen in Wave Hill, Westaustralien und einigen Regionen von New South Wales.
Dieses Exemplar wurde zunächst als gelber Baryt identifiziert. Eine erneute Untersuchung ergab, dass es sich um Prehnit handelt, was an diesem Fundort ungewöhnlich ist.
