Sphalerit, ein Sulfidmineral mit der chemischen Formel (Zn, Fe)S, dient als primäre Zinkquelle. Dieses Mineral kommt in verschiedenen Arten von Lagerstätten vor, hauptsächlich in sedimentär-exhalativen, Mississippi-Valley-Typ- und vulkanogenen Massivsulfidformationen. Es ist häufig mit Mineralien wie Galenit, Chalkopyrit, Pyrit sowie Calcit, Dolomit, Quarz, Rhodochrosit und Fluorit assoziiert.
Quarz ist ein robustes kristallines Mineral, das aus Siliciumdioxid besteht. Seine Struktur besteht aus einer kontinuierlichen Anordnung von SiO4-Silicium-Sauerstoff-Tetraedern, wobei jedes Sauerstoffatom zwischen zwei Tetraedern geteilt wird, was zu der chemischen Formel SiO2 führt. Diese Klassifikation ordnet Quarz strukturell als Gerüstsilikatmineral und kompositionell als Oxidmineral ein. Es ist das zweithäufigste Mineral in der kontinentalen Erdkruste, nach Feldspat.
Chalkopyrit ist ein Kupfer-Eisen-Sulfidmineral und das häufigste Kupfererzmineral. Es hat die chemische Formel CuFeS2 und kristallisiert im tetragonalen System. Sein Aussehen reicht von messingfarben bis goldgelb, mit einer Härte von 3,5 bis 4 auf der Mohs-Skala. Der Strich von Chalkopyrit ist diagnostisch und zeigt eine schwärzliche Farbe.
Bei Kontakt mit Luft läuft Chalkopyrit an, wobei verschiedene Oxide, Hydroxide und Sulfate entstehen. Begleitende Kupferminerale sind die Sulfide Bornit (Cu5FeS4), Chalkosin (Cu2S), Covellin (CuS) und Digenit (Cu9S5); Carbonate wie Malachit und Azurit; und, seltener, Oxide wie Cuprit (Cu2O). Es wird selten in Verbindung mit gediegenem Kupfer gefunden. Chalkopyrit dient auch als elektrischer Leiter.

Pyrit, gemeinhin als Narrengold bekannt, ist ein Eisensulfid mit der chemischen Formel FeS2, auch als Eisen(II)-disulfid bekannt. Es ist das am häufigsten vorkommende Sulfidmineral in der Natur.
