Rutil ist ein Titandioxid (TiO2)-Mineral und stellt die am häufigsten vorkommende natürliche Form dieser Verbindung dar. Es gibt seltenere Polymorphe von TiO2, wie Anatas, Akaogiit und Brookit. Rutil ist bekannt für seine außergewöhnlichen optischen Eigenschaften und weist einen der höchsten Brechungsindizes unter Kristallen bei sichtbaren Wellenlängen auf, zusammen mit einer signifikanten Doppelbrechung und hoher Dispersion. Diese Eigenschaften machen es wertvoll bei der Herstellung spezifischer optischer Komponenten, insbesondere in der Polarisationsoptik für längere sichtbare und infrarote Wellenlängen, die sich auf ungefähr 4,5 Mikrometer erstrecken. Natürlicher Rutil kann bis zu 10 % Eisen sowie bemerkenswerte Mengen an Niob und Tantal enthalten. Der Name Rutil leitet sich vom lateinischen Wort rutilus ab, was „rot“ bedeutet und sich auf den tiefroten Farbton bezieht, der bei einigen Proben unter durchfallendem Licht zu sehen ist. Das Mineral wurde erstmals 1803 von Abraham Gottlob Werner identifiziert, der Proben aus Horcajuelo de la Sierra in Madrid, Spanien, verwendete, das als Typlokalität anerkannt ist.

If your item arrives damaged, we kindly ask that you provide a short, continuous video showing the specimen from at least six angles. You can simply hold it in your hands and gently rotate it while filming. Please also include a clear view of the package label in the video so we can assist you as quickly as possible.
For all items reported as damaged or broken, we do require the item to be returned to us before a refund can be processed.
Return shipping costs are initially the responsibility of the customer. However, if your claim is approved after review, we will reimburse your reasonable return postage costs.
