Vesuvianit, Ca10(Mg, Fe)2Al4(SiO4)5(Si2O7)2(OH,F)4, im Volksmund auch Idokras genannt, ist ein Silikatmineral, das in den Farbtönen Grün, Braun, Gelb oder Blau auftreten kann. Dieses Mineral bildet typischerweise tetragonale Kristalle in Skarnlagerstätten und Kalksteinen, die eine Kontaktmetamorphose durchlaufen haben. Sein Name leitet sich von seiner Entdeckung in der Nähe des Vesuvs ab, wo es in Lavatuffen gefunden wurde. Einige der ästhetisch ansprechenderen Kristalle werden zu Edelsteinen verarbeitet, wobei bemerkenswerte Fundorte für hochwertige Exemplare der Vesuv und das Ala-Tal im Piemont sind.
Mit einem spezifischen Gewicht von 3,4 und einer Mohshärte von 6,5 wurde Vesuvianit 1795 von Abraham Gottlob Werner benannt, da feine braune Kristalle am Vesuv, insbesondere in den Kalksteinblöcken des Monte Somma, vorkamen. Das Mineral war auch unter verschiedenen Namen bekannt, darunter „Idokras“, ein von René Just Haüy 1796 eingeführter Begriff, der bis heute weit verbreitet ist.

For all items reported as damaged or broken, we do require the item to be returned to us before a refund can be processed.
Return shipping costs are initially the responsibility of the customer. However, if your claim is approved after review, we will reimburse your reasonable return postage costs.
