Zanazziit ist ein komplexes, hydratisiertes Phosphatmineral, das zur Roscheritgruppe gehört und als Magnesium-Beryllium-Phosphat klassifiziert wird. Dieses Mineral bildet typischerweise tonnenförmige Kristalle, die bis zu 4 mm groß werden können und oft in Verbindung mit Quarz vorkommen. Sein primärer Fundort sind die Spalten des Pegmatits Lavra da Ilha, der sich in der Nähe von Taquaral im Nordosten von Minas Gerais, Brasilien, befindet. Das Mineral ist zu Ehren von Pier F. Zanazziit benannt und hat die chemische Formel Ca2Mg5Be4(PO4)6(OH)4·6H2O. Jüngste Analysen mittels einer ARL-SEMQ-Mikrosonde haben seine Zusammensetzung identifiziert, wobei Elemente wie Phosphor, Mangan und verschiedene andere Oxide festgestellt wurden, deren spezifische Konzentrationen durch Techniken wie Atomabsorptionsspektrophotometrie und Titration gemessen wurden. Zanazziit ist Teil der Roscheritgruppe, die durch das dominante Kation in der Me-Position definiert ist, wobei gültige Spezies Roscherit, Zanazziit und Greifensteinit sind, die alle eine gemeinsame Strukturformel aufweisen, die den Ersatz verschiedener Kationen ermöglicht.
