Zaratit ist ein lebhaft smaragdgrünes Nicklkarbonatmineral, dargestellt durch die Formel Ni3CO3(OH)4·4H2O. Es kristallisiert im isometrischen System und tritt als massive oder mammillare Krusten und Gangfüllungen auf. Mit einem spezifischen Gewicht von 2,6 und einer Mohs-Härte von 3 bis 3,5 weist es keine Spaltbarkeit auf und ist durch einen spröden, muscheligen Bruch gekennzeichnet. Sein Glanz variiert von glasartig bis fettig.
Dieses seltene Sekundärmineral bildet sich durch die Hydratation oder Alteration von primären Nickel- und eisenhaltigen Mineralien wie Chromit, Pentlandit, Pyrrhotit und Millerit während des Serpentinisierungsprozesses ultramafischer Gesteine. Ein verwandtes Mineral ist Hellyerit mit der Formel NiCO3·6H2O. Zaratit wurde erstmals 1851 in der Mine Manolita in Teixedelo, Cedeira, Provinz La Coruña, Galicien, Spanien, entdeckt und ist nach dem spanischen Diplomaten und Dramatiker Antonio Gil y Zárate (1793–1861) benannt.

If your item arrives damaged, we kindly ask that you provide a short, continuous video showing the specimen from at least six angles. You can simply hold it in your hands and gently rotate it while filming. Please also include a clear view of the package label in the video so we can assist you as quickly as possible.
For all items reported as damaged or broken, we do require the item to be returned to us before a refund can be processed.
Return shipping costs are initially the responsibility of the customer. However, if your claim is approved after review, we will reimburse your reasonable return postage costs.
