Aragonite is a carbonate mineral and ranks among the three most prevalent natural crystal forms of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), alongside calcite and vaterite. It is produced through both biological and physical processes, notably through precipitation in marine and freshwater settings.

Morocco is renowned for being a leading supplier of aragonite, particularly known for its unique "Sputnik" or star-shaped crystal clusters that create spiky, spherical formations. These striking mineral specimens, which range in color from brown to brick-red, are primarily extracted from red clay layers located near Tazouta in the Atlas Mountains.
