BERYL VAR. EMERALD
BERYL VAR. EMERALD
SPECIMEN NR #:555-26
Emerald is a precious gemstone and a type of beryl (Be3Al2(SiO3)6) that exhibits a green hue due to small quantities of chromium or occasionally vanadium. Beryl ranks between 7.5 and 8 on the Mohs hardness scale. Due to the presence of numerous inclusions, most emeralds are considered to have relatively low toughness, making them more susceptible to breakage. Additionally, emerald is classified as a cyclosilicate.
