CINNABAR with MERCURY
CINNABAR with MERCURY
SPECIMEN NR #:
Mercury, represented by the symbol Hg and holding the atomic number 80, is a rare chemical element commonly referred to as quicksilver. Its name originates from the Greek terms hydor, meaning 'water,' and argyros, meaning 'silver,' which also informs its chemical symbol. This heavy, silvery d-block element is unique among metals as it remains liquid at standard temperature and pressure; bromine is the only other element that shares this property, while metals like caesium, gallium, and rubidium transition to liquid just above room temperature.
Globally, mercury is primarily found in deposits as CINNABAR, which is mercuric sulfide.
TOXIC (mercury evaporates). Must be kept in an airtight container / display box.
