CROCOITE with DUNDASITE (miniature)

Crocoite is a unique mineral recognized as a lead chromate (PbCrO₄). Its striking orange-red hue and remarkable crystal structures, typically found in prismatic shapes or granular forms, make it particularly notable. As a member of the chromate mineral group, crocoite attracts collectors due to its vivid coloration and distinct look. With a Mohs hardness rating of 2.5 to 3, it is considered relatively soft and delicate.

Dundasite is a rare mineral composed of lead aluminum carbonate, named after its type locality in Dundas, Tasmania, Australia. It was first identified in the Adelaide Proprietary Mine and described by William Frederick Petterd in 1893. This uncommon secondary mineral typically forms in the oxidized zones of lead ore deposits, often found overgrowing crocoite and occasionally being overlaid by yellow cerussite.
