Descloizite is a rare mineral composed of basic lead and zinc vanadate, with the chemical formula (Pb, Zn)2(OH)VO4. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and shares isomorphism with olivenite. The mineral can also incorporate significant amounts of gallium and germanium into its structure.

Its coloration ranges from deep cherry-red to brown or black, and the crystals exhibit transparency or translucency with a greasy luster. The streak appears orange-yellow to brown, while its specific gravity is between 5.9 and 6.2, and it has a hardness of 3.5. A variant known as cuprodescloizite is characterized by a dull green hue, containing substantial copper that replaces zinc, along with some arsenic substituting for vanadium. Additionally, there exists an arsenate analogue referred to as arsendescloizite.
