Halite, often referred to as rock salt, is a natural mineral form of sodium chloride (NaCl). It crystallizes in an isometric structure. While halite is usually colorless or white, it can also appear in various colors such as light blue, dark blue, purple, pink, red, orange, yellow, or gray, influenced by the presence of other materials, impurities, and structural or isotopic variations within the crystals. This mineral is frequently found alongside other evaporite minerals, including various sulfates, halides, and borates. The term "halite" originates from the Ancient Greek word for "salt," ἅλς (háls).
