PREHNITE (miniature)
Prehnite is a naturally occurring silicate mineral classified as an inosilicate, with the chemical formula Ca2AlAlSi3O10(OH)2. Characterized by its light green to pale hue, prehnite can exhibit translucent or transparent qualities. This mineral is primarily found in Australia, particularly in the Wave Hill deposits of the Northern Territory and various locations in Western Australia.
Prehnite typically forms in veins and cavities within basic igneous rocks, especially in amygdaloidal basalt, and is also present in metamorphic rocks. It is often associated with other minerals, such as natrolite. In Australia, prehnite is frequently discovered as nodules embedded in basalt, with notable occurrences in Wave Hill, Western Australia, and some regions of New South Wales.
