A very rare and older specimen from the Lengenbach Quarry.
Microscopic research reveals this specimen might contain
Jordanite is a sulfosalt mineral characterized by the chemical formula Pb14(As,Sb)6S23 and belongs to the monoclinic crystal system. It was named in honor of the German scientist H. Jordan, who identified it in 1864. This mineral typically exhibits a lead-grey color, often with an iridescent tarnish, and has a black streak along with a metallic luster. With a hardness of 3 on the Mohs scale and a density of around 6.4, Jordanite also features a conchoidal fracture. The mineral's type locality is the Lengenbach Quarry located in the Binn Valley of Wallis, Switzerland.
Dufrénoysite was first identified in the Lengenbach pit located in the Binn Valley of Switzerland's Valais canton. The mineral was described in 1845 by Augustin Alexis Damour, who named it in honor of the French geologist and mineralogist Armand Dufrénoy. In 1864, Julius Berendes further explored the properties of this mineral in his dissertation.
Wurtzite is a mineral composed of zinc and iron sulfide, represented by the chemical formula (Zn,Fe)S. It is a less common structural polymorph of sphalerite, with iron content that can vary up to eight percent. This mineral is trimorphous, existing alongside matraite and sphalerite. Wurtzite typically forms in hydrothermal deposits, often found in association with minerals such as sphalerite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, barite, and marcasite, and can also be located in low-temperature clay-ironstone concretions. First identified in 1861 from a site in the San José Mine in Oruro City, Bolivia, it was named in honor of the French chemist Charles-Adolphe Wurtz.
