Garnets are a collection of silicate minerals that have been valued since the Bronze Age for their use as gemstones and abrasives. While all garnet species share similar physical characteristics and crystal structures, they vary in their chemical makeup. The main types include pyrope, almandine, spessartine, and grossular, which has varieties like hessonite and tsavorite. Additionally, there are uvarovite and andradite. These minerals form two solid solution series: the pyralspite series, which includes pyrope, almandine, and spessartine, and the ugrandite series, comprising uvarovite, grossular, and andradite.
