Its primary commercial application is in the manufacture of sulfuric acid, which is essential for sulfate and phosphate fertilizers, along with various chemical processes. Additionally, sulfur is utilized in products like matches, insecticides, and fungicides. Many sulfur compounds are known for their distinctive odors, contributing to the scents associated with natural gas, skunk spray, bad breath, grapefruit, and garlic, while hydrogen sulfide is responsible for the smell of rotten eggs.
