TORBERNITE (CHALCOLITE)
TORBERNITE (CHALCOLITE)
SPECIMEN NR #:958
RADIOACTIVE
Torbernite, often referred to as chalcolite, is a fairly prevalent mineral characterized by the chemical formula Cu[(UO2)(PO4)]2(H2O)12. This radioactive, hydrated green copper uranyl phosphate is typically located in granites and other uranium-rich deposits as a secondary mineral. Its chemical structure closely resembles that of autunite, with a Cu2+ cation substituting for a Ca2+ cation. Under certain conditions, torbernite can lose water and transform into metatorbernite, which has the formula Cu[(UO2)(PO4)]2(H2O)8.
PLEASE NOT, BEFORE PURCHASING, TO CHECK WITH LOCAL CUSTOMS IF THE IMPORT IS ALLOWED INTO YOUR COUNTRY. ALL COSTS FOR RETURNING AND ANY FINES MUST BE BEARED BY THE PURCHASER.
