Brookit ist eine orthorhombische Form von Titandioxid (TiO2) und ist eine von vier anerkannten natürlichen Polymorphen, die sich in der Struktur unterscheiden, aber die gleiche Zusammensetzung aufweisen. Die anderen drei Polymorphe sind Akaogiit (monoklin), Anatas (tetragonal) und Rutil (tetragonal). Im Vergleich zu Anatas und Rutil ist Brookit relativ selten und zeigt, wie seine Gegenstücke, photokatalytische Eigenschaften. Es weist ein größeres Zellvolumen auf, das acht TiO2-Einheiten pro Zelle enthält, im Gegensatz zu den vier des Anatas und den zwei des Rutils. Häufige Verunreinigungen, die in Brookit gefunden werden, sind Eisen (Fe), Tantal (Ta) und Niob (Nb).
Das Mineral wurde 1825 von dem französischen Mineralogen Armand Lévy zu Ehren von Henry James Brooke, einem englischen Kristallographen und Mineralogen, benannt. Eine spezifische Varietät namens Arkansit wird in Magnet Cove, Arkansas, gefunden, und Brookit befindet sich auch im Murun-Massiv auf dem Olyokma-Chara-Plateau in Ostsibirien, Russland. Bei Temperaturen über etwa 750 °C wandelt sich Brookit wieder in die Rutilstruktur um.

For all items reported as damaged or broken, we do require the item to be returned to us before a refund can be processed.
Return shipping costs are initially the responsibility of the customer. However, if your claim is approved after review, we will reimburse your reasonable return postage costs.
