Chabazit ist ein Tektosilikat-Mineral aus der Zeolithgruppe, das eng mit Gmelinit verwandt ist und die chemische Formel (Ca,K2,Na2,Mg)Al2Si4O12•6H2O hat. Die Varietäten werden je nach vorherrschendem Kation als Chabazit-Ca, Chabazit-K, Chabazit-Na und Chabazit-Sr klassifiziert.
Dieses Mineral kristallisiert im triklinen System und bildet typischerweise pseudokubische, rhomboedrisch geformte Kristalle, die oft Zwillingsbildungen aufweisen, einschließlich Kontakt- und Durchdringungstypen. Chabazit kann in verschiedenen Farben vorkommen, darunter farblos, weiß, orange, braun, rosa, grün oder gelb, mit einer Härte von 3 bis 5 und einem spezifischen Gewicht von 2,0 bis 2,2, wobei es einen glasartigen Glanz aufweist. Es wurde 1792 von Bosc d'Antic zuerst als Chabasie bezeichnet, bevor es seinen heutigen Namen annahm. Chabazit findet sich hauptsächlich in Hohlräumen und Mandelsteinen innerhalb basaltischer Gesteinsformationen.
Kalzit ist ein Karbonatmineral und die stabilste Form von Kalziumkarbonat (CaCO3). Es ist weit verbreitet und insbesondere ein Hauptelement in Kalkstein. Mit einer Härte von 3 auf der Mohs-Skala wird Kalzit nach seiner Ritzbarkeit beurteilt. Große Kalzitkristalle werden in optischen Geräten verwendet, während Kalkstein, der hauptsächlich aus Kalzit besteht, vielfältige Zwecke erfüllt.
