Rhodonit ist ein Mangansilikamineral mit der chemischen Formel (Mn, Fe, Mg, Ca)SiO3, das zur Pyroxenoid-Gruppe gehört. Es kristallisiert im triklinen System und wird typischerweise in spaltbaren bis kompakten Massen gefunden, die eine rosenrote Farbe aufweisen, ein Name, der vom altgriechischen Wort ῥόδον (rhódon) abgeleitet ist, was „Rose“ bedeutet. Dieser lebhafte Farbton erscheint aufgrund von Oberflächenoxidation oft bräunlich, wobei die rosenrote Farbe auf das Vorhandensein von Mangankationen (Mn2+) zurückzuführen ist.
Rhodonit-Kristalle zeichnen sich durch eine dicke tafelige Form aus, obwohl sie nicht häufig vorkommen. Das Mineral weist eine perfekte prismatische Spaltung auf, nahezu im rechten Winkel. Seine Härte reicht von 5,5 bis 6,5 und es hat ein spezifisches Gewicht zwischen 3,4 und 3,7. Der Glanz ist glasartig, kann aber gelegentlich auf Spaltflächen perlmuttartig erscheinen. Mangan in Rhodonit wird häufig teilweise durch Eisen, Magnesium, Kalzium und manchmal Zink ersetzt, das in erheblichen Mengen vorhanden sein kann. Eine graubraune Varietät, die bis zu 20 % Calciumoxid enthält, ist als Bustamit bekannt, während Fowlerit eine zinkreiche Varietät ist, die 7 % Zinkoxid enthält.

For all items reported as damaged or broken, we do require the item to be returned to us before a refund can be processed.
Return shipping costs are initially the responsibility of the customer. However, if your claim is approved after review, we will reimburse your reasonable return postage costs.
